Synopsis
After 12 years of designing Web Sites both professionally and at the project level, I decided to pursue the almost limitless potential of Web and Music technology. I approach Web design as an art, similar to the arrangement of a Musical composition. My services span 4 categories. Web Design & Layout, Music Recording & Production, Keyboard Work, and FileMaker Development (FileMaker is similar to MS Access or ACT). I am a professional with all of these services, however my pricing targets the level of Jr. Consultant. I do this because I prefer to work smart, not fast and I don't compromise on the quality of my solutions. I am willing to negotiate, especially if the result is more business. A cover letter is usually designed to target a specific position or job category. Because of the broad range of services that I offer, I have opted for a quick summary of my experience and technical skills in each.Web Design:
From professional, personal, project, and multimedia design I have learned many key concepts and can work with most of the essential programming languages (php / mysql, html, xml, css). I have worked on dozens of sites (links to the active ones available in the "Samples" section). Depending on the job, I've been a webmaster, designer, graphics designer, integrated portals or CMS, or just added utilities and functionality. I've worked on corporate sites such as Verizon, LWW, the Philadelphia Eagles site, to multimedia (such as band) sites. I've worked with Dreamweaver and other software apps, but most of my sites lately are designed on a beefed up NotePad when working from home.MultiMedia Production and Recording:
The computer and software recording process started to become readily available in the later '90's, about the time I became involved. Though I am intimately familiar with Cubase, I have used other recording programs such as Cakewalk, Sonar, and MOTU. I have worked in a few studios, and can route most hardware and software configs. I am a master creating a musical environment while at the same time maintaining instrumental space through the recording, processing, mixing and pre-mastering stages.Keyboard and Piano Session Work:
For session work, I have been playing Piano and Keys for over 20 years and have a good grasp on most musical styles. My preferences lean towards Progressive Rock, Classic / Art Rock, Ambient, and Trance / Electronica. My skills are not limited to these categories though... with the exception of Advanced Classical music, I can play most styles. I usually play by ear, but improv well and can work out notation given time.FileMaker Development and Functionality:
I have worked with FileMaker Database Software for the last 8 years, over time transitioning into a developer. I have created a number of personal databases, even one for recording and invoicing these consultations. I can easily create complex database solutions and am able to add functionality to existing solutions.I am open to all requests within these categories, will take long term contracts, and will even consider permanent positions based on the flexibility of schedule and telecommuting. Compliance and SpecificationsWeb design and development: Compatibility for Mac OS X 10.2.x+, Windows XP SP1+, and Windows 2000 SP2+ will be supported along with the following browsers.
- IE 6+
- Firefox 1.0.4+
- Mozilla 1.4+
- Safari 2.0+
- Opera 10.x+
Strict W3C specifications will be implemented on a per-request basis. OS and Browser compatibility is essential and is given priority. W3C requirements are not always synchronized with new browser and software releases. In some cases... Multimedia Websites for instance, the demographic would be high performance users and strict adherence would not be as necessary. Regardless, this should not affect the versatility of any (even specialized) client requests.
Recording and Production: Cubase software environment. Recording defaults to 32Bit Broadcast / 48MHz. Other qualities are available per client request. Mixdown to wav / broadcast wav / mp3 / AAC / AIFF, again, depending on client request. CD mixes default to 16Bit / 44.1Khz. MP3 music defaults to 192KHz. Surround sound recording options are available.
FileMaker: Database Development, Maintenance and Recovery, and Migration. Supported versions are FileMaker 7, 8, 8.5, and 9. 10 is available if software is supplies, however all FileMaker is upward compatible and cross platform. Backwards compatible is risky and not recommended for development. This must be taken into consideration. Database migration will be available from Version 2.1 forward.
For any consulting work, maintenance and support is available until stability is reached. Beyond that, continuing support will be determined on a client-by-client basis at the standard fee.John Worth
